Easy Earth Day Activities You Can Do At or Close to Home

By Melissa Shrader Editor/Publisher Fort Collins Macaroni Kid April 22, 2025

There are very simple ways to help the Earth and celebrate Earth Day.

Every act can help no matter how large or small. It’s the consistency and commitment to do the actions daily that matters. Remember a long journey begins with a single step forward.

1- Grab a bag and fill it with trash

Imagine how much trash we could clean up if we just did one bag a day. Pick a park or someplace safe that needs a little TLC and fill a bag. Remember to use proper protection and do it as a family for safety.

2- Plant for pollinators

This is a great way to help out endangered pollinators like bees and butterflies by planting their favorite source of food. Pick some plants bees and butterflies love and enjoy watching them grow and feed them all summer long.

3 – Keep those yellow weeds (Dandelions)

What! Did you say, save the pesky weeds? These are actually important to bees and flies in spring.

4 – Happy Birthday Earth! Throw a party.

It’s a great way to celebrate the Earth and learn a bit in the process. Get some crafts and snacks together and talk about how amazing the Earth is.

5 – Look up and Watch Old Faithful of Meteors!

Just in time for Earth Day “Old Faithful” (the Lyrid meteor shower) will be showing off with up to 15 meteors per hour for several hours at the peak. Keep your eyes toward the skies April 22nd and 23rd late night or early morning to see the fun.

No matter how you celebrate, make sure you pass along what you learned and what you are doing to help keep Earth healthy.
